Skin care routine combination skin

Hi guys!

My skin is not in the best shape right now. I have combination skin with a lot of blackheads/large pores in the t-zone meanwhile I have dry cheeks and a dry surface all over my face (even in t-zone). I am in my thirties now so I don’t get a lot of pimples anymore but I used to when I was younger.

My question is regarding my skin care routine. Currently I am using this as my routine morning and evening:

Cleanser: Manuka honey or regular flower honey

Toner: Raw apple cider vinegar mixed with water on a ratio about 1:4. I put on quite a lot and let it dry for a few minutes before I apply the moisturizer.

Moisturizer: Jojoba oil for the whole face. Since jojoba is too dry for my cheeks I am using avocado oil on the cheeks afterwards.

Twice a week I am using either a red clay mask or a banana oatmeal mask. I am thinking about substituting the red clay for bentonite clay but don’t know if that would be too drying for my skin.

After a lot of research, I came up with this routine based on the ingredients, but I am unsure if these works well together. I have been using this routine for a while now and I think I can see some improvements, but I don’t feel like the pores have shrunken much. I also still feel like I have this dry surface all over my face, although it’s definitely less dry now.

If anyone have advice on if these ingredients are good to combine or if I should swap for something else, it would be much appreciated!

Hey there! Sounds like your skin is giving you a little bit of trouble, so whose isn’t? lol

I’ve heard great things about Manuka honey, but never tried it myself, so I can’t comment on that, but if you have a lot of blackheads, I would suggest you use a blackhead scrub a few days a week. Additionally, you should also try Clinique Facial Soap, which is a cult classic and, personally, I love it and it works for all skin types. It balances the skin’s pH, gets rid of excess oil, and also helps with blackheads.

If you have somewhat dry skin, apple cider vinegar may dry it out further. I would try Thayer’s Witch Hazel Toner which is truly a god-sent! I’ve been using it for years now and it leaves my skin very smooth, calms down irritation, and it’s super gentle.

Jojoba oil has a comedogenic rating of 2, which is low, but it’s still not 0. That means that while it shouldn’t really clog pores, it CAN. So maybe think about using a 0 comedogenic oil, such as hempseed oil, safflower oil, or sunflower oil. All of those have a rating of 0, and definitely should not cause clogging. A moisturizer I really, really like is Neutrogena Hydroboost Gel Cream. I constantly fight with acne, but this gel-like moisturizer is really lightweight, doesn’t cause breakouts or blackheads, and moisturizes exactly where you need it to.

In terms of a face mask, I like to use the Aztec Bentonite Clay - it works WONDERS and also have a crazy cult following. Just apply it to the areas where you need it, and follow up with a toner and moisturizer afterwards. I use that about twice a week.

Well, that’s my personal opinion based on my experience, but everyone’s skin reacts differently to different products, so it’s a game of chance!

Have you tried a blackhead sucking instrument and/or pore strips? I also get a TOOON of blackheads, but 2-3 times a week I used this blackhead sucking instrument I got on Amazon for super cheap and it just sucks the blackheads and the whiteheads right out of my skin - it’s pretty gross actually!

That’s the one I use and I really love it! It also sounds like you may need to use a regular cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. The natural at home stuff is really great, but it might not help if you’ve got problem skin. I would say start off with a blackhead clearing facial cleanser like a charcoal cleanser, and also use a scrubbing massager. Blackheads can be a pain the butt to get rid of, and you have to be consistent with your regimen as well. Try a hyaluronic acid serum along with your moisturizer and apply it morning and night (before moisturizer). It will keep your skin from drying out and help your moisturizer stay on for longer.

Hi! Sorry for my late reply.
Thank you so much! These were great advice and I will definitely try all of them, but one at a time! The blackhead sucking sounds amazing and so does the bentonite clay masks!

Kind regards, Ebba

I have had problems with fungus toenails and minor athletes foot. I really don’t like using creams or lotions on my feet as I had for over a year so I started using antifungal soap. After 8 months of use my toenails are clear of fungus and there is no athletes foot. If you are having toenail fungus problems, plan on treating it for a long time because it takes time for the toenails to grow out.

Hi! Honey can cause allergies and clog pores.
Also, jojoba oil and avocado oil have an average level of comedogenicity; oil may not be suitable for you and clogged pores. Vinegar can irritate the skin.
In general, all problems with the face come from the inside. You should take tests and consult a specialist. Also, your doctor will choose the right professional care for your skin type.
You need to eradicate the problem from the inside for a start. I drink Prettyville liquid collagen and biotin. It effectively speeds up nail and hair growth and supports skin health.

I am satisfied with the quality of my skin now. I noticed improvements after I started adding biotin to my daily diet.

The best skincare routine for combination skin must contain a face cleanser, moisturizer, toner, and a night serum as well. The only thing is to keep in is mind to just go with natural skincare products. In the morning apply the face cleanser that contains ingredients like Aloe Vera, honey & other essential oil. The second step will be to moisturize your skin just after cleaning your face. In the evening before going to bed apply cleanly your face again to remove the dirt particles. Applying a natural skin toner like pure rose water can be very beneficial. I will also suggest applying any night serum just before going to bed.
