What is the difference between an emery board and a nail file?

Sorry if it’s a stupid question, but I’ve always wondered and this group has been so helpful so far

I believe a nail file is JUST that - a nail file which will only file the nails, whether it’s made of metal or other. An emery board is a piece of cardboard with emery (that’s the material) on it, which is more like sandpaper. Both are good options, but I do prefer an emery board as they’re much gentler on the nail and are also cheaper to purchase.

I believe the only difference between an emery board and a nail file is the material which they are made out of. An emery board is made out of a coarse, sandpaper-like material (I think it’s tiny little sand granules or something of the sort), while nail files are made out of metal. I personally prefer emery boards because they’re much gentler on the nails!

Thank you guys for all the replies…makes total sense now and not sure why I didn’t realize this…duuh!
